The Further may very well be the Lehigh Valley DIY scene’s best kept secret. Started in 2025 by a group of three area musicians who are already playing in bands, The Further seemed to have been birthed as a kind of pressure-release valve for Egan Miller (guitar, vocals), Jakob Christman (bass), and Dylan Loccarini (drums) — specifically for when the three needed to channel the holy spirit of The Stooges and play some straight-ahead, no-bullshit garage rock. Second guitarist Randy Artman is making his debut with the now-four-piece band at this very session. In fact, he’s so new to the band, both Tape Swap’s Shamus McGroggan and Matt Molchany had no idea he was even in the Further until the crew showed up at the Shards doorstep.
All of the members of The Further get frequent flier points for this visit as they’ve all appeared in Shards Sessions in others bands: Miller with Sun Bus, Christman with Catatonic Suns, Loccarini with Laurel Canyon, and Artman with The Living Things. If ever there was a LVDIY supergroup, this is it. And while it’s true The Further are relatively new, they have also been laying low, only playing a select number of shows when the musicians’ busy schedules permit. As such, the band has no official releases yet. All of the songs they performed are road-tested in the smokey halls of dive bars like The Funhouse in Bethlehem and the Vera Cruz Tavern in Emmaus: “Higher Than,” “Sunday Scaries,” “Richochet,” and “Dead Situation.”
The session premiered on WDIY 88.1 FM in April 2026.
